The species name vagans comes from the Spanish for 'wandering', referring to the way this terrestrial species wanders.

Blooming Habits:
The Selenicereus vagans has 8 inches wide (20 cm) or more white flowers in late spring or early summer. They are followed by spiny reddish pink fruits, 3 inch long (7 cm). The areoles on the fruit have white felt and 8 to 15 yellowish spines, up to 0.3 inch long (8 mm)
