Weberbauerocereus rauhii


Scientific Name: Weberbauerocereus rauhii Backeb.
Synonym: Haageocereus rauhii
Family: Cactaceae

Sun Exposure: full sun

Origin: Southern Peru: Ica to Arequipa, between 900 and 2100 m elevation (3000 and 7000 feet)

Type: Columnar cactus, branching at the base, up to 20 feet tall (6 m.)

Stem: 3.2 to 6 inches wide (8 to 15 cm.)

Ribs: Up to 23 ribs

Central spines: 1 to 6, 0.8 to 2.4 inches long (2 to 6 cm.), yellow colored, central spines grow in number and size as the areole matures

Radial spines: 60 to 80, up to 0.4 inches long (10 mm.), bristle like, whitish to yellowish

Flowers: White or brownish flowers, up to 4 inches long (10 cm.), up to 1.6 inches wide (4 cm.)

Young plants, older shoots and the tips of flowering shoots differ greatly in their spination.
