Scientific Name: Austrocylindropuntia pachypus (K. Schum.) Backeb.
Synonym: Cylindropuntia pachypus, Maihueniopsis pachypus, Opuntia pachypus
Family: Cactaceae

Origin: Peru (north of Lima) at low elevations of 2000 to 5000 feet (600 to 1500 m)

Growth Habits: Few branched cholla, up to 3 feet tall (1 m), segments up to 3 inches in diameter (8 cm); 20 or more spines, of uneven lengths, up to 0.8 inch long (2 cm)


Blooming Habits:
Bright red flowers, up to 2.8 inches long (7 cm)
