Origin: Southwestern USA, Mexico (Sonora, Baja California)

Growth Habits: Small tree, 3 to 5 feet tall (0.9-1.5 m), yellowish-green segments round to oval, 5 to 8 inches in diameter (12-20 cm); areoles 0.4 to 1.2 inches apart (1-3 cm), areoles on older leaves are larger; deciduous small subulate leaves, 0.16 to 0.24 inch long (4-6 mm); 3 to 7 unequal spines, 0.6 to 1.6 inches long (1.5-4 cm), directed toward the ground.
