Growth Habits: Solitary, columnar, up to 18 inches tall (45 cm)

The Melocactus ferreophilus has 10-12 ribs. It has a bluish tinge close to the cephalium. It is considered as a subspecies of Melocactus azureus by Taylor (1991).
