Heat Tolerance: Dislikes extreme summer heat.

Origin: Western Baja California and nearby islands

Growth Habits: Forms large groups up to 200 stems; light green stems globose or short-cylindrical, 2 to 8 inches tall (5-20 cm), 1 to 1.4 inches in diameter (2.5-3.5 cm); 8 to 10 ribs; 1 to 4 (to 7) central spines, 1 to 2 inches (2.5-5 cm); 9 to 12 radials

Watering Needs: Winter grower, regular water in winter, keep drier in summer


Blooming Habits:
Light yellow flowers, 1.2 to 1.6 inches long (3-4 cm), ovary with few spines, borne at the top of the stems.
