Growth Habits: Solitary or slowly offsetting from the base, the heads are up to 4.8 inches wide (12 cm); 14 ribs; 1 to 6 central spines; 8 to 10 radials

The name "brunnescens" was not validly published.

Blooming Habits:
Yellow flowers, up to 0.8 inch long (1 cm)
