Growth Habits: Solitary, grows slowly up to 15 feet tall (4.5 m) 7 feet in diameter (2 to 2.5 m); trunk, swollen at the base, most of it covered with leaf base and fibers, older areas grey and ringed; palmate leaves, 3 to 6 feet in diameter (90-180 cm), younger leaves develop a red tinge when placed in the sun, and stay green in the shade; spiny petiole

Watering Needs: Regular water, keep drier in winter, moderate salt resistance, drought resistant

Propagation: Seeds, 1 to 3 months to germinate

Blooming Habits:
Flower stalk coming from among the leaves, with bisexual yellow flowers.

Fruiting Habits:
Round fruit, black when ripe. 1 inch long (2.5 cm). Round seed: 0.8 inch long (20 mm).
