Origin: USA (Texas), Mexico (Coahuila, Chihuahua), at 2000 to 6000 feet elevation (600-1800 m), in arid, rocky habitat
Growth Habits: Stiff-leaved grass-looking shrub, up to 3 feet tall (90 cm), 5 feet wide (1.5 m); trunk small or underground, usually less than 2 feet long (60 cm); leaves 2 to 3 feet long (60-90 cm), 0.4 to 0.6 inch wide (1-1.5 cm), edges with sharp hooked teeth.
Watering Needs: Little water, needs well drained soil
Blooming Habits:
Thick spike with abundant white flowers, 9 to 15 feet tall (2.7-4.5 m), in late spring and early summer. The Texas Sotol is dioecious.
