Mexican Fan Palm

Eight years ago, I moved to the Southeast Valley of Phoenix & inherited several Mexican Fan Palm Trees in my backyard.

Every spring, the trees develop blooming stalks & eventually drop seeds & debris in the pool.

My goal is to manicure the trees once a year, while keeping the backyard & pool areas as clean as possible.

Can pruning, on this variety of tree, commence once the stalks appear & just before the seeds fall, or is it necessary to wait until all or most of the seeds have dropped?

Someone told me, if I prune before the seeds all drop, the trees will re-pod again, thus resulting in another trimming. Is this true?

The trees are annually maintained, normally around the last few days of May to the very beginning of June. By this time, the seeds are gone, I’m exhausted & so is my pool equipment, trying to keep up with the cleaning process.

Can the trees be pruned before the seeds have a chance to fall without the worry of trimming a second time & without damaging the trees?

If there’s a good book or even better, a website that anyone can recommend on this subject, I would very much appreciate it.

Respectfully,
Tori
