cut off end pieces of at least a foot in length.
if your cactus has thorns, wrap it in several sheets of newspaper and make sure you wear protective gloves.
let the cuttings air dry for about a week. also mark on the cuttings which side faced south.
after a week, plant the cutting in the ground making sure the south markings face that way. doing so will prevent sunburn and possibly killing the cutting. if you need you may also cover the cutting with shade cloth to prevent sunburn.
it's best to do this during the warmer times of the year - march thru oct.
that's it. enjoy your new cacti.
