heat loving periennials around fountain

I'm new to Arizona and have a challenge spot around a fountain. African daisies have died.

I live in Tucson, and the fountain area faces south. Lots and lots of sun, most of the day. The planting area, about 16" deep, is surrounded by flagstone, and then the fountain itself is made of concrete. Lots of reflected heat, in addition to the sun. What might survive here? Anything other than the desert daisy?
