Origin: China, Japan

Growth Habits: Small evergreen tree, partially deciduous in cold areas, slow growing to 15 to 25 feet tall (4.5 to 7.5 m), 20 feet spread (6 m); dark green, glossy, oval leaves 2 to 4 inches long (5-10 cm)

Watering Needs: Regular water, needs good drainage

Propagation: Cuttings, grafting onto Pyrus calleryana seedlings


Very susceptible to fireblight.

Blooming Habits:
Fragrant white flowers, 1 inch in diameter (2.5 cm), in late winter.

Fruiting Habits:
Small, beige, inedible fruits, 0.5 inches in diameter (1.2 cm).
