Used to be cultivated as a cereal in India.

Cultural Practices:
Soak the seeds for 24 hours before planting. Plant after last frost in spring, 12 inches apart.

Blooming Habits:
Grown for the hard, shiny, bead-like clusters of gray to black seeds that form at the tips of the stems. They can be strung for necklaces.
