Growth Habits: Small tree with multiple trunks, quick growing to 30 feet tall (9 m), 20 feet wide (6 m), dense foliage; adult leaves are alternate, flaky bark; shiny green, long, lance shaped, up to 10 inches long (25 cm), 0.8 to 1.6 inch wide (2-4 cm), often sickle-shaped, with a red petiole; juvenile leaves are opposite, and much shorter, wider, and hairy

Watering Needs: Occasional deep watering

Attractive bright red caps pop open to bright yellow flower clusters in mid-summer.

Blooming Habits:
Bright yellow, exceptionally wide flowers in summer. The unopened bud has a bright red cap.
