Growth Habits: Evergreen tree, over 200 feet tall in its native environment (60 m); gray to grayish black trunk; aerial roots; leaves, 4 to 6 inches long (10-15 cm), 3 to 5 inches wide (7.5-12.5 cm), petiole 1.6 to 2.8 inches long (4-7 cm), light pink leaf sheaths; invasive roots

Fruiting Habits:
Globose fig, 0.6 to 0.8 inch in diameter (1.5-2 cm), purplish when ripe. A species-specific wasp (Pleistodontes froggatti Mayr) is necessary for pollination.
