Alcea

There are around 60 species of Alcea coming from western and central Asia. It is said that the hollyhock where brought back to England by the crusaders. Linnaeus used both genus names Alcea, which is the Latin spelling, or Althaea from the Greek 'to cure'. Species and varieties Alcea rosea (Hollyhock)
