The name Calochortus comes from the Greek for "beautiful grass". This is the state flower of Utah.
The onion is edible (of course, who would want to eat it?)

Blooming Habits:
White flowers with cherry red and yellow markings at the base, up to 3 inches across (7.5 cm), in late spring to summer.
