Growth Habits: Deciduous tree, 30 to 75 feet tall and wide (9-22.5 m) or more; thick, dark gray, deeply furrowed bark when mature; deeply lobed (typically 9 to 11 lobes) green leaves, 2 to 4 inches long (5-10 cm) with no prickly tip and lighter underside

Watering Needs: tolerates occasional flooding

Propagation: Fresh seeds, don't let the acorns dry out If the acorns are not fresh, they need to be stratified for at least a month

Quercus lobata is the largest US native oak.

The acorns of the Valley Oak are slender, bullet shaped, 1.2 to 2.0 inches long (3-5 cm) and 0.5 to 0.8 inch wide (1.2-2.0 cm). They ripen in a single year.
