Growth Habits: Small deciduous tree, 30 to 40 feet tall (9-12 m); grey bark with blackish short thick spines; leaves, 3.2 to 5 inches long (8-12 cm) with 3 leaflets

Watering Needs: Occasional deep watering, needs good drainage

Propagation: Seeds, cuttings


Blooming Habits:
Scarlet orange flowers in racemes, appearing before the leaves, in winter. The stamens stick out of the flower. They are followed by cylindrical pods, 2.4 inches long (6 cm), constricted between the seeds.
