Evergreen Euonymus, Japanese Euonymus
Scientific Name: Euonymus japonica L. f.
Family: Celestraceae

Euonymus japonica 'gold spot' |
Recommended Temperature Zone:
sunset: 4-20, 28-31
USDA: 8b-10
Frost Tolerance: Hardy in Phoenix
Heat Tolerance: Good
Sun Exposure: Full sun to part sun
Growth Habits: Evergreen bush to 10 feet tall (3 m), 6 feet spread (1.8 m), generally sheared to 3 to 5 feet tall (0.9-1.5 m); opposite, leathery, green, oval leaves, 1 to 2 inches long (2.5-5 cm), up to 1.4 inches wide (3.5 cm)
Watering Needs: Moderate water, tolerates poor soils.
|

Prune regularly around the year. When removing a lot of vegetation, it is better to do so in winter as the Euonymus is susceptible to sunburns.
Cultural Practices: Easily attacked by mildew, treat regularly, as you would for rose bushes
Blooming Habits: The Japanese Euonymus bears small green inconspicuous flowers in mid spring.
Propagation: The seeds need to be stratified for several months (keep them in the bottom of your fridge), still the germination is often poor. Use semi-hardwood cuttings in summer, or hardwood cuttings in the fall. Recently planted euonymus are slow grower, but the growth gets faster as they get established.
