Sun Exposure: Full sun, to some light shade

Origin: Central North America from Canada to Mexico

Growth Habits: Long-lived herbaceous perennial, one or several stems, 2 to 3 feet tall (60-90 cm) or more, 0.5 to 1.5 feet spread (15-45 cm); tap root; rhizomes

Watering Needs: Low water use; needs good drainage

Propagation: Seeds (new plants take 2 years to flower), division in spring, root cuttings

Blooming Habits:
Deep purple flowers in late June to early fall. The flowers attract butterflies.
