Origin: Asia, southeastern United States, naturalized in Europe in swampy areas

Growth Habits: Semi evergreen mat-forming perennial, up to 50 inches tall (1.25 m), up to 30 inches in spread (75 cm); linear leaves, up to 1 inch wide (2.5 cm)

Watering Needs: Grows best in boggy soils, in baskets on the side of medium to large ponds, 3 to 8 inches deep (8-20 cm)

Propagation: Easy to start from root division in spring.

Cut down dead foliage in autumn. The bruised foliage is scented with a sweet aroma reminiscent of cinnamon or citrus.
The variety "Variegatus" is more compact with striped leaves.

Blooming Habits:
Insignificant flowers.

Fruiting Habits:
Red fruit.
