Size: Up to 60 feet tall (18 m). Up to 40 feet in diameter (15 m)

Water Requirements: Moderate water
Sun Requirements: Full sun
Origin: Canary Islands
Leaf: Pinnate, Spiny leaves. The lower leaflets as for most Date Palms are transformed in long spines.
Trunk: No crownshaft, Up to 3 feet in diameter (90 cm).
Flower: Dioecious.. Flower stalk coming from among the leaves.
Fruit: Brown. 1.5 inches long. short small date looking fruit.
Seed: 1 to 1.5 inches long. end more rounded than other date seeds.

The tree very often recovers if the leaves have been killed by hard frosts. The fruit is too astringent to be edible.
