Bach's Cactus Nursery in 2001

Bach's Cactus Nursery is maybe the best of Tucson succulent nurseries. They are located North of the city, a little over 1 miles north of Ina Road.  This makes it closer for me coming from Phoenix.  They are the Phoenix's Desert Botanical Garden supplier.  They are sell both wholesale and to hobbyists and gardeners but do not sell mail-order.  If you are in Tucson, their show room is definitely something worth the visit.

Here is a video on youtube.

The picture on the right is one of the many greenhouses where the cacti and succulents are maturing.  A lot of varieties are grown from seeds in winter, and are sold one to 2 years later.  Each tray seem to have a different species with a somewhat different color composing a fabulous giant mosaic.  The pictures are showing tiny pieces of the greenhouses that seem as long as football fields.

Many cacti and succulents are grown from seeds.  The regularity of size in the pots say a lot of good about the growing conditions.

A lot of other succulents are grown from cuttings.  The picture on the right is a small part of a huge hedge of Myrtillocactus from where cuttings are taken.

Dan Bach is extremely knowledgeable about cactus.  He has published a number of articles on topics as varied as conservation or ideal growing soil.  He is also a popular speaker in succulent conferences.
